Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

I literally cried when I heard that The Metropolitan Museum of Art was going to release a book about their exhibit for the late Alexander McQueen. I kept on updating local bookstores about when it was going to be released and poof! it came out late last year!

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty was priced around 2k locally (I bought mine in Fullybooked) and 31$ in Amazon. Inside, you’ll see run way shots, interviews from Alexander’s colleagues and a lot of gorgeous pictures from his collection. Unfortunately it doesn’t really tell about the designer’s in depth biography but it focuses more on his creative career. Everything was laid down in a historical pattern of his inspirations and the results of his idea. So it’s basically, idea & resulting dress/material per collection.

Quotes from Alexander’s past interviews were also shown per collection. These may be short words but they are precise enough to show you how focused and creative the designer is. Therefore I really recommend this to fashion lovers and artists for visual inspiration! Though there weren’t any bonus freebies from the book, I guess the pictures were the main prize!

The New Age of Feminine Drawing NO. 2 Art Book Review

Here’s another art book review before I leave for the holidays! The New Age of Feminine Drawing NO. 2 (by Allrightsreserved) is a book series showcasing illustrations that empower the idea of “Feminine.” From fashion illustrations, product designs, mixed media commercials, lifestyle pages, posters and more, this book will help you visualize how strong illustrations seduce their target audience in an artsy-farsty manner. (No joke tee-hee)

Favorite artists of mine like Fifi Lapin, James Jean, Raphael Vicenzi, Annika Wester, etc. are all included in the 2nd edition (that’s why I bought it actually hehe). But what I seriously love about this art book are the “Behind the scenes” with the artists’ work.

In the Behind the Scenes (BTS) part like this one above, the artist shares her experiences with how she starts an illustration and discusses her “movement” style with her work. So pretty much, the BTS pages shows a step by step process by the illustrators and as a self taught artist this is just so awesome!

Since I started drawing, I’ve been using a trial and error method (I never went to art school, so don’t ask me anything about plates tee-hee) so these articles will simply expose me on how to start a good illustration/sketch…the right way. Plus it’s a good learning to see different views.

I bought my art book @ Page One in HongKong Harbour City but you can always order from Fullybooked.

Hey young padawans of the force! The Star Wars Limited Edition Moleskine is finally here in the Philippines! You can find both designs in any Fullybooked branch in the country and it comes with a free poster. I got mine weeks ago, thanks to my big sis who got it for me, and the paper texture is really fine and crisp.
I don’t really recommend a lot of coloring with the blank version because the paper is too thin but of course sketching and doodling is fine! Haha! but more importantly I don’t think I can use it too much because it’s a LIMITED EDITION. ♥♥♥
